Fridays are always sweet but none sweeter than the Friday at the end of the first week of school. I have raced from meetings with worried parents to meetings with uberconfident district lawyers. I have responded to new nurses almost in tears and international parents relieved to learn that we will accept immunization records in Portuguese. I realized this morning that over and over again I have utilized concepts and strategies from School Nurse Administrators: Leadership and Management. Instead of viewing each request, each crisis as “another fire to put out”, Carol Costante and her team of contributors have given School Nurse Administrators a coherent framework to apply the Nursing Process to Leadership and Management.
At the end of this busy week – do you know what the most significant outcomes were? That several of our nurses stepped forward to take on leadership roles – in team building, in promoting staff wellness and self-care, and in advocating for safe levels of staffing. Thank you Carol and thank you to the wonderful team of School Nurse Leaders that put this resource together. You have truly created a ripple effect of leadership.
