Bio

Anita has been a nurse for 39 years! Whoever would have dreamed that we would say such a thing?!! Her BSN is from Duke University, and her graduate work is from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City. Anita’s graduate work includes two master’s and a doctorate in nursing administration. A school nurse for 6 years, this is the first community health position for Anita. She obtained national certification in school nursing in summer 2010. She has worked in operating room, medical-surgical nursing, orthopedics, and geriatrics. She has been a staff nurse, Director of Nursing Services, Director of Nursing Education in community college, and Associate Professor of Nursing, teaching in Master’s, Baccalaureate, Associate Degree, and LPN nursing programs. She has also taught nursing assistants for state certification and caregivers for assisted living. She is a member of the local Medical Reserve Corps and teaches CPR and First Aid. She is a member of SNOW, NASN, ADD Resources, the Anna’s Bay Chorale (that’s singing), the National Arbor Day Foundation (that’s trees!), the National Parks Conservation Association, and her local Christian church. She enjoys reading, knitting, film photography, pistol shooting, coin collecting, and traveling with her several female friends. She has a son, almost 20, who is her favorite person in the whole world. Anita’s mantra is “keeping kid in the classroom ready to learn,” and her philosophy is “years from now students may not remember what you taught them, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
