Research Mailing Lists

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) often receives requests to contact NASN members for research purposes. While NASN does not release the names or personal information of NASN members, NASN does offer options for researchers wanting to reach NASN members with Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved surveys.

Please review and follow information and guidelines below prior to submitting research mailing requests to NASN. NASN will respond to requests after a review process.

For market or product research, please contact INFOCUS, NASN's mailing list rental partner.

Options

Option 1: Reaching NASN Members via Email Sent by NASN

Research that addresses NASN’s Research Priorities is eligible to be sent via email by NASN to members (not more than 2,000) who have opted to participate in research. The return rate varies on the survey and interest to school nurses.

NASN will send the email on behalf of the researcher through the NASN membership database. The database can sort the membership list to include the following specific categories which include:

  • All members;
  • Members in a specific state; or
  • A random sample.

No survey requests are permitted in the online community discussions via NASN's online community website SchoolNurseNet.

Option 2: Reaching NASN Members via NASN's eNewsletter

Research that does not address NASN's Research Priorities but that is pertinent to school nurses/student health is eligible to be included in the NASN Weekly Digest.

No survey requests are permitted in the online community discussions via NASN's online community website SchoolNurseNet.

Guidelines

Please note that NASN often has a waiting list of requests as we receive numerous survey requests. NASN does not send surveys in the summer (June, July, August) because school nurses often do not check their work emails when schools are closed.

Individuals interested in having research shared with NASN members must comply with the following. Please read all the guidelines before initiating your request.

Step 1: Request Process

  1. Affirm that your research request is scientifically sound and ethically appropriate before continuing.
  2. Complete the  NASN Membership Outreach for Research Request Form
  3. Email the request form to NASN at data.research@nasn.org
  4. Include the subject line: Research Survey Committee.
  5. Pay a non-refundable $100.00 Research Request and Application Review Fee. (See payment section below for payment method.)

The request form and fee will be processed within 7-10 business days. The request will be reviewed by the NASN Research Committee. The review can take up to 3 weeks. Please plan accordingly. The Committee will review the design and survey tool for scientific rigor and appropriateness for school nurses, and determine if it fits an NASN priority and/or is pertinent to school nursing/student health. The review will not happen if the request and application review fee has not been paid or received.

If the request is approved, you will be notified by the NASN Research Committee and move to the Order Process outlined below.

Step 2: Order Process (Applies ONLY if the request is approved.)

  1. Complete the NASN Membership Outreach for Research Order Form
  2. Email the order form to NASN at data.research@nasn.org
  3. Include the subject line: Research Survey Committee.
  4. Pay the amount outlined in the schedule below for Research Order Fees for Approved Research Requests. The schedule includes outreach options to reach: a sample of NASN members via an email; readers of NASN’s e-newsletter (sent out twice); or both. (See payment section below for payment method.)

When the order form and fee is received, NASN will notify you via email and facilitate your research outreach based on the outreach option(s) you chose.

After the data analysis of the research is complete, you are asked to share the summary of results with NASN within 3-6 months.

The researcher must acknowledge the NASN membership as a data source in any publications developed from the survey.
