Last summer, I had the privilege of attending a fundraiser in which, I learned about heart-led leadership. Since that time, heart-led leadership has become the theme for our district. We started the year by defining that ALL Health Services staff are Heart Led leaders. A Heart Led Leader will change the lives of those they lead and work with, every student they serve and everyone they touch (Spaulding, 2015). Caring and love equal results. When we are invested in our students and each other we will have better results. Mississippi Celebrates 25 years! The Mississippi School Nurse Association marked its 25 th anniversary this year, 2018. Our official beginning was in 1993 with MSNA’s first annual conference in Natchez, MS. Martha felt strongly enough about membership in NASN to pay the annual dues out of her pocket for this band of founding school nurses. She was a visionary leader for school nurses in MS who is now celebrated with an annual Martha Douglas Memorial Scholarship funded by MSNA. ...

We kept watch over our streets, the TV, the river and creek gauges, our front door, hoping we would not succumb to flood waters. We checked with our friends to be sure they were safe. We responded to safety inquiries from friends around the United States. Thankfully, our home is dry and ...

Fridays are always sweet but none sweeter than the Friday at the end of the first week of school. I have raced from meetings with worried parents to meetings with uberconfident district lawyers. I have responded to new nurses almost in tears and international parents relieved to learn that we will accept immunization records in Portuguese. I realized this morning that over and over again I have utilized concepts and strategies from School Nurse Administrators: Leadership and Management . Instead of viewing each request, each crisis as “another fire to put out”, Carol Costante and her team of contributors have given School Nurse Administrators a coherent ...
