Dr. Erin D. Maughan currently serves as the Director of Research for NASN. Before coming to NASN full-time (in August 2012) she was a member of the faculty in the College of Nursing at Brigham Young University (BYU) for the past eight years, where she taught public health nursing, global health (study abroad programs), and served as Coordinator of International Affairs for the College. She also served as chair of the School Nurse Educator Consortium, a special interest group of NASN. Dr Maughan's research focuses on issues related to school nurse staffing, school health outcomes, and cultural competency. Her past experience includes working as a district school nurse, with a special focus on vulnerable populations; and serving as the State School and Adolescent Nurse Consultant for the Utah Department of Health. Dr. Maughan was born and raised in New Hampshire, received her BSN from BYU; and a Masters (in community health nursing) and PhD from the University of Utah.
