Use Your Documentation and Data to Improve Student Health

By Lindsey Minchella, MSN, NCSN, RN, FNASN posted 02-21-2018 13:44

Did you know that school nurses collect lots of data in their practice? Data that can be used to improve the health of students!

The digital poster below was presented at the 2017 NASN Annual Conference and illustrates easy ways school nurses can identify the school health data they are already collecting and use it to show the work they are doing.

This handout below accompanied the poster and presents examples of outcomes using data.

Thanks Sharonlee- I'm glad it's helpful!  We're doing an Indiana SN Leadership Academy this year, and a major focus of it is using data.
Lindsey, your timing is impecable. As you know school budgets are being voted on now and the strove of SN data tells powerful stories of how school nurses keep students in school and ready to learn. What would Florence Do [WWFD] (Johnson, 2014)? We know! She invented the pie chart and told her stories to everyone who would listen and made sure that her populations were cared for safely. Thank you for this wonderful resource tool.
