Data and Lessons Learned from 2014-2015 Uniform School Nurse Data Set

School nurses are unique in their role in caring for our nation’s children where they live, learn and play.  The data that school nurses collect on the health of America’s children has great value locally and nationally for data based decision making by educators, health care systems and policy makers.

The effort toward a National Uniform School Nurse Data Set has been underway for over a decade. In 2014, across the country school nurses were invited to join the NASN / NASSNC joint initiative: Step Up and Be Counted!  The focus of the 2014 – 2015 academic year was to establish the processes for collecting national data from every working school nurse.  Three sets of data were collected from school nurse volunteers from 37 states.

A webinar was recently presented to share the data and the lessons learned from year one.  An infographic was also created to show the data.
