COVID-19 Donation of medical supplies to hospitals from schools

This is my first blog post. I am a CSN at Monessen School District in Western PA. We are a tiny district with about 750 kids PK-12, and a VERY small budget. We only had 4 cases of gloves and 2 partially filled boxes of basic face masks but we are doing our part to help hospitals in need of PPE.
This is an email my superintendent sent out early this am. I have permission to share this, and I am asking you to consider what you can do as well. Sincerely,
Nadine Calcek, RN, BSN, CSN

Subject: Donation of Medical Supplies

Dear Superintendents:
It has been a rough couple of weeks for all of us, and probably more ahead.  I know our focus is the providing education equity to all, safety of students and staff, providing feeding programs, and the list goes on.  Not to add one more thing on your plate, but I would like you to consider helping your local medical community.

Yesterday, I donated gloves and masks to our local hospital.  I could not think of someone in need or reusing a mask, when I had some in my empty school buildings on a shelf.  While I didn't deplete my supply in case we return to school, I gave what I could to help.  They were very appreciative.  We are a small district, so it wasn't much to make a huge difference, but any little bit could help.

Please consider donating any medical supplies (masks, gloves, and/or swabs) you feel you can spare to your local hospital and/or EMS.  I am sure it would be appreciated.  Please share with other members of the educational community.  We are all in this together.  Stay healthy.

Sincerely,
Dr. Leanne Spazak
