Nina Fekaris, MS, BSN, RN, NCSN-E, FNASN

    


Bio

Nina Fekaris, MS, BSN, RN, NCSN, FNASN has been a school nurse in the Beaverton School District in Oregon for 30 years. She retired from direct school nursing in 2018 and is now an adjunct professor at University of Portland, teaching population health.

While a school nurse, she provided nursing service to a comprehensive high school, a middle school, an elementary school and an alternative earth science high school program. She also provided supervision to two classroom nurses who provided direct nursing care for medically fragile students. Prior to becoming a school nurse, Nina worked as a staff /ICU nurse at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo and as the Director of Nursing and Health Service for the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross. She is currently working as a school nurse mentor - providing orientation and guidance to new school nurses in her district.

Nina graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Graceland University in 1979, and received her Master in Science from Central Missouri State University in 1983. She became a Nationally Board Certified School Nurse in 2008.

Nina is a Past President of NASN. She served as President from 2017-2019. She served as Director on the NASN Board of Directors as well as past-president of the Oregon School Nurses Association. She was recognized as Oregon’s School Nurse of the Year in 2008/2009 and was honored to be named NASN’s National School Nurse of the Year in 2009/2010, and was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of School Nursing in 2020.

My presidential focus was on helping school nurses Find Your Voice.  Our public narrative is the story of our students, if we don't tell their story, who will?  Won't you join me today in advancing the practice of school nursing by finding your voice!
