There have been several inquiries regarding how Wisconsin's school nurses may be able to help with needs surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic while schools are not in session. We have been given the following guidance from Wisconsin's DHS: Please start with registering with WEAVER. WEAVR stands for Wisconsin Emergency Assistance Volunteer Registry. It is a web-based volunteer registration system for health care and behavioral health professionals. School nurses who are interested in offering their skills and expertise during the state's COVID-19 response can register on the WEAVR website . The Wisconsin Association of School Nurses now has an Executive Director to collaborate with the Board of Directors to catapult the organization into the future. Beginning June 18, 2018, Barbara Maley , RN, begins as the first Executive Director of WASN. Barb formerly served on the Board of Directors as the Nominations Chair. She has been instrumental in many initiatives over the past several years as a Board member. Please join in WASN's focus on the future, making the organization vibrant for members and building relationships to advance the practice of school nursing in Wisconsin.

Inspiration from peers can be a driving force. Networking can occur formally, or informally. Some choose to network locally, however challenge yourself to expand to other places such as the WASN annual conference. Another option is the NASN annual conference. The relationships that come out of the networking endures over long distances and can be drawn upon to enhance school nursing practice.

We all welcome a new school year on individual schedules. Many schools have already started for this school year, while others will begin in the coming days. May your membership to the state and national organization provide resources and supports to you and your school nursing practice. We hope that as we all practice in the 21st century, the NASN model will assist us. Starting the school year can be supported by the Back-To-School Health Office toolkit.
